The Lady Dragons—Trixie, Kathleen, and Martha—meant to open a gentle private-investigation shop: sympathy, advice, and a few quiet background searches. But when Kay, Chef Emile’s right-hand woman, is discovered murdered behind Emile’s Café and the murder weapon ties back to the grieving chef, their cozy plans unravel.

Between cinnamon buns, copious amounts of coffee, and background searches, the friends find all the wrong things: a chef with a violent rap sheet, an obnoxious deputy who takes great pleasure in intimidating and harassing the restaurant staff and the Lady Dragons. And then there’s the sheriff, who seems more interested in re-election than uncovering the truth. When clandestine phone calls surface and the Lady Dragons uncover a crime ring that reaches far beyond Brookville, the ladies must rely on neighbors, a janitor-turned-hacker, and an honorable deputy who still believe in doing what’s right.
