Sheriff Francis Hood Mysteries #5
Procedural, Traditional, Thriller/Suspense
Richard McGonegal
In the aftermath of a tornado, a woman’s body is found in the debris of The Hideaway, a popular roadhouse in Central Missouri. When the medical examiner determines her time of death does not coincide with the twister’s touch down, Huhman County Sheriff Francis Hood begins an investigation.
Two days later, a woman is discovered bound to an iron trellis in her front yard following a home invasion. The crime occurred while her husband, a long-haul trucker, was on the road. Hood uncovers puzzling circumstances that raise more questions than answers.
The sheriff uses the two cases as teaching tools for his rookie deputy, Robin Little, who surprises him with her keen insights and problem-solving skills. Their search for answers leads to sinister developments, causing Hood to examine his motives and his fears. Has he adequately trained Robin, or has he inadvertently put his young deputy in danger?
As chaos seeps into Hood’s personal and professional life, he must confront his past and analyze his choices before he can move forward.
