NIGHT DELIVERY

Colin Campbell

Procedural, Noir/Hard Boiled

SURVIVOR’S GUILT IS ONE THING

SURVIVING IS SOMETHING ELSE

“Flat white, strawberry shake or one-shot latte. It’s all just milk.”

The angry man’s brow furrowed. “Who the fuck’s talking about flat white?”

Joe Sargent let out a sigh. “You really going to fight over a milkshake?”

Boston, Massachusetts

Joe Sargent is an ex–New York Firefighter who relocated to Boston to be near his daughter and cope with the PTSD that forced him to leave the job. He is looking for a stress-free life. Delivering milk to coffee shops on the nightshift is supposed to help with that. Reducing his interaction with people. Reducing the pressure. Until Thursday night goes from bad to worse, and the bad doesn’t even feature the angry man and the milkshake.

A hitman hijacks Joe and his refrigerated truck to kill five targets and store their bodies for his boss. That is the bad. Having his truckload of corpses hijacked again by a pair of disgruntled Army veterans is the worse. With the hitman trying to relocate the delivery truck, and the Norwood police investigating one of the targets, Joe’s PTSD just went through the roof. Between the hitman, the cops, and the ex-soldiers, somebody is going to end Joe’s survivor guilt. Because you’ve got to survive to feel guilty about it.
