STEVE PACKWOOD

Steve Packwood was born in Warwickshire in the heart of England and moved to London in 1984 to join the Metropolitan Police.

He served for 15 years in West and Central London as an emergency response officer, before passing the tough selection process to become one of the UK's very few armed officers. For the next 15 years he was a  firearms and protection officer, 'looking after' such high-profile figures as UK Prime Ministers Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair, before joining the Royalty Protection Department where he served as one of the  Late Queen Elizabeth II's Protection Officers at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and at Balmoral in Scotland.

After 30 years of service, Steve set about enjoying not getting up at 3:30 a.m. He has been married to Sue for 16 years and has 2 daughters from a previous marriage. One is a nurse married to a Police Officer and the other, like her dad, serves as a Police Constable in central London.

Steve enjoys travelling the world and having experiences outside his ‘comfort zone,’ including sky-diving, scuba-diving with sharks, bungee-jumping, and abseiling. Sue has a substantial life insurance policy in her back pocket. He shares a love of drama and art with Sue and they indulge themselves with regular visits to galleries and theatres.

Steve's DS Grant Maddox Series captures the grim and gritty reality of policing, the triumphs and failures cops endure every day, whilst indulging in the dark humour and banter cops the world over are famous for.
