About the Author...

Penny Richards has been writing and selling mostly contemporary romances since 1983, with 42 books in various genres to her credit. After taking some time away to pursue other things on her “bucket list” she’s back at the computer, writing in a wide array of genres, including Christian contemporary and historical romances, romantic suspense and historical mystery. She especially loves writing historical books, when things were not easier, but times were simpler.

She’s been called “ruthlessly practical” and loves research, British tv mysteries, cooking, learning anything new, upcycling and family. Besides working on book four of her award-winning Lilly Long Mystery series, she’s revamping books from her backlist for a group of new readers.

Her books have made various best seller lists and have been nominated for, or won, several industry awards.

Ms. Richards writes from her home in a small rural town in Southwest Arkansas.

News and Reviews....

An Untimely Frost,  5 Stars

“...a finely-crafted novel with clues appropriately scattered...in the time-honored manner of Dame Agatha Christie and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.”

“The tone set by prose and dialogue invokes a sense of the late 19th century as Progress...including rebellion against the chafing caused by restrictions of law and society on women, pushes forward change....”

“...the pacing is beautiful, the dialogue witty and the characters so realistic that this book is a joy to read.”

“...a wonderful job with ambiance. Her vivid descriptions of the house left untouched for twenty years were so eerie, and her descriptions of some of the food...made my mouth water!”

Though This Be Madness: 4 ½ stars

  • Best historical Mystery 2018, Texas Association of Authors

“Set in the 1880's in New Orleans, the location, the details, even the backstory of the history swirling around the characters is lush and believable.”

“If you are even vaguely familiar with the history of women's rights in this country, you will find it deftly woven into this story of greed, perseverance and justice.”

“...at times I could smell food cooking, the swish of crinolines along with the soft rich patois of southern Louisiana speech. Definitely recommend this one.”

Murder Will Speak, 4 stars

“The author deftly handled the subject matter (prostitution and sexual slavery)...both fascinating and difficult to read...interactions reveal layers of our characters, allowing for inner growth...loved the ending - so perfect...”

“The mystery is tight and fast-paced, but the author still gives the characters enough room to breathe...are allowed to reflect on what they learn...and how that affects their own lives and choices they make.”

“Penny Richards writes powerful books on tough subjects. She has the amazing knack of telling a compelling story while addressing important issues.” Author LaRee Bryant
